Weakness: A Strength in the Bible

Have you ever felt weak and helpless? You're not alone. The Bible says that we can be confident in God's presence because He is the truth (John 14:6) and can empower us to turn to Him in our weakest moments. One of the most comforting promises Jesus made was that He would be with us always until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

The Lord does not abandon us in our weakness. We can trust Him for all that we need in every circumstance, even when life is going well and we feel like we have it made. Our weakness and trials can bring us to a realization of our need to depend on God.

It's at times of crisis that people often gather to pray together and consider God and the purpose of life. The lyrics of the song 'Strong Enough' by Matthew West capture the moments in life when we feel like we're at rock bottom, desperate for help.

When we yield to God, we will experience His power at work in us, transforming our heart and mind. It points us away from our own abilities and efforts and onto Him and His all-sufficient grace. In our weaknesses, people will see that it's nothing we can do in our own strength, but it's God working through us.

The Lord said to Paul, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness' (2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV). It can be comforting to know that the Lord is at work in our weakest moments and He has a plan and a purpose. Joseph became the governor of Egypt, Paul's letters form a large part of the New Testament, and Peter was reinstated and began the early church.

The Bible is full of people who were weak at times, just like us. As we reflect on the areas of our lives where we know we are weak, may we look to Jesus and ponder how He works through our weaknesses for His glory. Even when our flesh and heart fail us, He is the strength of our heart (Psalm 73:26). Weakness is an opportunity for God to work powerfully in our lives.
